Interview with my father

 Interview with my father

"The main purpose of a print or online interview is to get your interviewee to talk freely - and the best way to do is to listen" (Adams, Potter 2017). I began my post with a quote from the book "Interviewing for Journalists". That gives me an idea how interview should be like. Now when I will be doing an interview with my father I will take care to go listen carefully.

The name of my father is Andrew and he used to be a miner. He worked for over 30 years at 'KWK Boleslaw Smialy', the coal mine located in Upper Silesia, in Laziska Gorne city. Now he is on retirement. To me, he is a very special person and also my authority. I will ask him about Silesian traditions, his favorite dish and ask some questions to highlight the Silesia region.

Interview with my father:

  1. What is your favorite Silesian dish?

My Silesian favorite dish is the one that we often eat at Sunday. Of course, this is a dinner so it will be Silesian dumplings, red cabbage with bacon and Silesian roulade. I love dipping dumplings in meat’s essential sauce.

  1. What is your favorite drink?

I like to have fresh fruit compote for dinner. It easily quenches my thirst after work. Usually compote contains itself strawberry or gooseberry. My favorite one is from the red currant.

  1. Is there anything sweet than u can eat after the dinner?

Sure, I usually eat “kogel mogel” which is simply yolks grinded with sugar. I like its fluffy texture.

  1. I heard that you have moved to Silesia from another part of Poland. Did you find any differences in food and culture?
I did notice some differences, of course, the main difference is with food. In the part of Poland        when I came from there were no dumplings and roulade. Another aspect is the dialect. It took me long time to understand and finally to speak like other Silesians.

      5. How is it to work underground?
This work is very physically, also there are unfavorable working conditions, there is dark and very hot, so when you come back home you dream only about the shower and something that is putting you on feet - for example a good meal.

I will add some photos to show the conditions under which miners must work and some traditional Polish Silesian dishes. I can't wait for the time I will visit the  Poland and taste delicious. fresh fruit compote.

                                                              Mine conditions

                                                          Miner's hand with coal

                                                            'Karminadle' - minced meat

                                                             Gooseberry and raspberry compote

  1. This is very short - Is there more to this? Are you adding pictures of your Father/the food discussed?
